Grand Final Match –  Peninsula Thunder defeated Northern Beaches 9 – 6

The Peninsula Thunder Youth Team became the NSW Junior Champions, in a fantastic Grand Final that had a large crowd of supporters on the edge of their seats.

Peninsula started the game off very slowly and were down 1 – 4 at the end of the first period. Many thought that the young Peninsula team wouldn’t be able to come back from the large deficit. They were dominated in the first period by the strong and physical Northern Beaches team. The Peninsula side looked disjointed and continually turned the ball over in pressure situations.

In second period Peninsula started with a lot greater intensity. The team playing with a high forward pressure continually trapped the Northern Beaches team at their defensive end. The goals started to come and by the end of the second period they had closed the gap to 4 – 5.

In the last period Peninsula changed their playing formation. The tactics of playing 3 sets of forwards applying high pressure to the Northern Beaches defence in the first 2 periods had worked. The Northern Beaches outfit could not match the intensity of Peninsula in the final term and tired at the end of the game. Peninsula ran out winners with the Final score being 9 – 6. It was a fantastic team effort by all the players, with everyone playing their part.

Scorers for Peninsula were Reece Wallace 2 goals + 2 assists, Andrew Laznik 2 goals + 1 assist, Alec Morison 2 goals + 1 assist, Zane Drennan 2 goals, Thomas Laznik 1 goal & Nick Delaney 1 assist.

Grand Final Team :

Emma Brandham
Reece Wallace

Unfortunately Nicholas Clunes couldn’t play the Grand Final but was an important member of the team throughout the season.

Junior Reps Team to play NSWFA Subaru Series Grand-Final

The Peninsula Youth Team has become the first Peninsula Thunder Club team to make it into a New South Wales Floorball Association Grand Final. This Saturday 5th April the Youth team will take on the Northern Beaches team at All Sorts Sports Complex in Alexandria at 11.00am.

In the last round on the 22nd March the Youth team finally defeated the Northern Beaches team 9 – 1. There have been a lot of close matches in the last 2 years against the Northern Beaches club but the Youth team have always fallen short in the last period of the games.

The Youth team continues to improve with every match and hopefully will have extra confidence going into the Grand Final with being able to beat Northern Beaches in their last match.

The Peninsula Youth team take a strong line-up into the Grand Final.
The team is : Patrick Delaney – goalkeeper
Steven Collins – goalkeeper
Saige Engelbrecht – defender
Nicholas Delaney – defender
Madison Boland – defender
Nicholas Clunes – defender
Miguel Cullen-Green – centre
Reece Wallace – centre
Jack Nash – forward
Thomas Laznik – forward
Andrew Laznik – forward
Emma Brandham – forward
Alex Tuthill – forward
Alec Morison – forward
Zane Drennan – forward
Lucas Carpenter – forward

Unfortunately the team will be without Claudio Lucini who scored the first 2 goals against Northern Beaches in the last match.

New South Wales Floorball Association are in the process of appointing a NSW Under 19 co-ordinator to start training young up and coming players in NSW. It is hoped a number of the Peninsula Youth team members will make this Squad. This Squad training will take the players to the next level of playing Floorball, with the possibility of one day representing Australia.

The Australian Men’s Under19 team will play New Zealand in October in play-off matches for the World Championships. The Under 19 Mens World Championships will be held in Helsingborg, Sweden starting on the 29th April 2015.

We wish all players the best of luck.
