It is official – Peninsula Floorball Club – 2nd biggest club in Australia

The Australian Floorball Association has released membership stats and our Club is rated 2nd biggest club in Australia.

Considering the club was founded 2 years ago, it is a great acknowledgment to all involved in making our club strong.

It is just fantastic to notice our junior numbers increasing consistently. Who knows, it might be only a matter of time before one of our member is selected to represent Australia and wear green and gold.

First Annual Penalty Shoot-out Competition

And the winner is…..MITCHEL FIDDOCK ….Well done Mitch for being our first winner of the club penalty shoot-out competition.

After two rounds of elimination, Mitch and Nic Watterson qualified for the final round. However, this third round was not enough to declare a winner. In sudden death, Mitch kept his cool to get the final goal past the keeper Matt Laing.

It was fun and a great way to finish a year of competition at Peninsula Floorball Club.

Congratulations to Ciaran and Kelly Quinn

Congratulations to Ciaran and Kelly Quinn for becoming parents and welcoming into the world their little boy Oliver George.

Junior team participation at Northern Beach Open

On Saturday 6th October Peninsula Junior Floorball members participated in the Northern Beaches Open Competition held at Dural.

The Juniors had the opportunity to play against clubs from Newcastle and Victoria. While they they had a fantastic fun filled day, they gained great experience.

Our Elite team also participated in the open with positive outcome, ending the week-end with 1 win and 2 losses.

Floorball is a fast and fun sport to play. The sport is often described as” ice hockey without the ice” but contrary to Ice Hockey, floorball is a non-contact sport and well suited to Juniors ages 6 – 14.

Team competition has now started for both Junior and Senior players, and the club always invites new players to come and try the sport and perhaps join one of the teams.

Games are held Tuesdays at the Peninsula Leisure Centre Woy Woy, Junior games start from 5pm and Senior games start at 7pm.

Canberra Floorball Open 2012

Peninsula Floorball Club sent a team to participate in the Canberra Floorball Open that took place on 25-26 August 2012. As per the NSW elite competition, members of the Thunder – Peninsula Floorball Club and Scorpions – Gong join forces to battle it out in the CFO.

Mitch Fiddock, the team captain, lodge the following report. Well done to the team who represented our club interstate for the first time.

—————————————————————————————————–
CFO (Canberra Floorball Open) 25-26/8/12.

First game on Saturday was against Glebe who made the grand final so it was going to be tough.
We started well with Christian picking up the first goal of the game but it all went down hill from there. Glebe went on to beat us 11-3

We learnt alot from the game and started to get our structure in defence. 2nd Game was against Bondi the team that ended up wining the Open.
We started well again going goal for goal with Bondi in the first period but the Bondi kicked into another gear and slowly pulled away. This was a much better game from Peninsula Floorball with everybody starting to work as a team.

Sunday came and we had games against both ACT team and we looked a good chance of winning the 1st game up 4-2 with a period to go. Once again Christian spearheading the attack and Tim “The Fun Police” Christie shutting down the opposition in defence. This wasn’t enough and we went down 5-4 at the end of the game with Christian having a chance to level the scores with a penalty shot after the buzzer but pushed it just wide.

Last Game of the tournament was another close game going down to the wire in the 3rd period. Jon Marks did well to keep us in front with some great saves and Alan Clay and John Jay keeping the defence solid in the last period to get the peninsula their first win of the tournament 4-3 against ACT Chargers White.

Well done to the whole team for the weekend, I enjoyed it immensely and I hope you all did to.
Hope to see you all at the Northern Beaches Open on the 6/7 Oct.

Mitch Fiddock
