Week 1 – 29 October – NSW Competition 2011/2012

For many, this was their first game at elite level … the first competition our Club has officially entered a team.

Our men’s elite narrowly lost against Bondi FC, 6-7…..The odds were not in our favour….with Daniel Clay, our best player, having to retire within the first minute following a knee injury. We wish Daniel a speedy recovery. Regardless, our young players gave it 100% with special mention to Josh Brown who played fantasticly by scored three goals. Peninsula FC was leading 4-3 but in a matter of minutes Bondi reversed the situation by scoring four goals. Showing great spirit, Peninsula FC reduced the gap to 7-6 with three minutes left on the clock. Unfortunately for us, we could not find an equaliser.

Regardless of the loss, it is great to see that we have enough talent in our team to challenge more experienced team. It can only get better.

Our mixed team had a hard fought win, 2-0 over Bondi Mixed. The match was a close encounter which was decided in the second period when Lachlan Clay and Andrew Clay scored for Peninsula FC. Our defence was solid and Jon Marks played well as he did in the mens game. Jon showed plenty of confidence in his debut at this competition level. Well done.

Peninsula FC joins the NSW Floorball competition

By combining players from our Club and the Wollongong Scorpions, we have been able to form two teams to enter the NSW Floorball Competition. The teams will be playing under the ‘Peninsula FC’ name. Games are held every second Saturdays, at the ‘All Sports’ facility located in Alexandria, close to Mascot Airport.

Our Men’s Elite team will be facing, Bondi FC, Glebe FC, Newcastle Cobras, Northern beaches Stingrays, Wollongong FC. The Mixed team will be facing Bondi FC, Vipers (NSW womans team), Glebe FC, Northern beaches, Wollongong FC.

We wish all players of both team a great competition. It will be a great experience to be playing against more experienced players, some having played overseas and some currently representing Australia.

Week 10 – 25 October

Pythons won 4-2 over Scorpions. The game was played in good spirit and good passing allround. All pythons players scored points on the night and the young Scorpions players are improving and growing in confidence weeks after weeks.
Fighting Ibis won their battle against ‘You’re my boy blue’. It was a close encounter and perhaps a bit too physical at time. For the first time the refs had to send off couple of players for too much enthousiasm. Last period saw ‘You’re my boy blue’ dominate the game by passing the ball around and controlling the game but they could not get past Jon Marks who had a great night in goal.

Junior Program – successful start

Attendance of our junior program has been fantastic. Eight young players attended our first session on 11 October. On our second session, attendance grew to 14 players. Peninsula Floorball club is proud to be the first club in NSW to be offering a weekly junior program.

Under the guidance of Alan Clay and Mitch Fiddock, the junior players are learning basic skills through a few simple drill followed by a game. Last week goal scorers were:

Brock V (2 goals) | Adam G (1 goal)
Reis S. (2 goals) | Isaac J (1 goal)

Judging by many happy faces….it is fair to say that they had good fun. This is floorball…a fun game for all to enjoy.

We do encourage boys and girls to come and try this fun sport.

Fighting Ibis consolidated their position as leader of this comp after winning against Patriots. It was a very close game and Patriots were pressing for an equaliser but instead Dan Fiddock killed the game with a goal with 10 seconds to spare.
‘You’re my boy blue’ won against Pythons and have now secured 3rd position on the table.
